A fairly recent book (2014) The Body Keeps the Score by Boston psychiatrist Bessel van der Kolk has an excellent review of the research on the effects of trauma on childhood development. He is very critical of the DSM and the medical model, reviews attachment theory, research on sexual abuse, parenting and the ACE and other studies and has some detailed case studies. His approach to therapy seems both eclectic and pragmatic.
It seems to me that his book is quite relevant to the recent news about both the detention of immigrant children and the sexual abuse of kids by priests. I would be interested in what other SDP folks think about this topic and van debt Kolk’s book.

Jacob, perhaps you could be more specific about Bessel’s book and/or what grabs your interest that you think a DP perspective might illuminate?
